ABOUT THE ARTIST ...

Artist Statement

I began exploring the mediums of art at a young age.  I found a connection with painting, which helped me to express myself.  My paintings draw on the natural world that we encounter every day, particularly flowers, as well as the Arizona landscape. Each work explores and rediscovers the complexities of the natural world. I am continuously experimenting with new mediums and ideas, which is reflected in the uniqueness of each piece I create. My work ranges from semi- realistic to abstract to non-objective. I am drawn to and inspired by color, shape, and texture found in the natural world.

My paintings focus on abstraction through line, exploration of shape, and expressive use of texture and color, working mainly with Acrylic paint on canvas.  Within each painting I hope to engage the viewer’s senses through my expressive layering of paint and colors. Through the enlargement of my forms and the exaggeration of brushstrokes I hope to create a pleasurable viewing experience as well as a level of abstraction that is meditative in its simplicity paintings.  I am a self-taught artist and also hold a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Art History.
